Canis Shelf-Stable Sausage Rabbit is a soft 800 gram sausage with rabbit as its protein source. Dogs usually get rabbit less often than chicken or beef, which is why owners of a dog with a sensitive stomach sometimes try it for a change. You can easily cut the sausage into cubes or slices.
Trying rabbit: how to go about it
- One protein source at a time: don't give any other new treats in the first week, so you can see what your dog reacts to.
- Start small: begin with a few cubes a day and build up gradually.
- Watch for signs: stop if your dog vomits, has diarrhoea or starts itching, and see the vet if it persists.
- Any age: suitable for puppies, adult dogs and seniors.
Storage
Once you have cut the sausage, store it covered in the fridge and use it within the period on the label; closed, it can stay outside the fridge. When a different protein source really makes a difference is explained in grain-free dog treats and allergies. Compare all sausages in the sausage buying guide.
